Gold market in Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe is a major African gold producer via Fidelity Printers and Refiners. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe issues gold coins (Mosi-oa-Tunya) as a store of value against inflation.
Taxes and import duties
Investment gold coins and bullion issued by the RBZ are exempt from VAT and capital gains tax. Jewellery is subject to 15% VAT.
Popular karats and purities
24k is preferred for the RBZ gold coins and investment bars. 22k and 18k are used in jewellery, but the retail market is small.
