The headline number is the spot price: what one troy ounce (31.1035 g) of pure 24k gold trades for between banks and bullion dealers in London and New York. Right now that is $4,104.00, or $131.95 per gram.
Jewelry is rarely pure. To value it, multiply the weight by the karat purity — 18k is 75% gold, 14k is 58.5% — and by the 24k gram price. A 10 g 14k chain therefore holds about $769.64 of gold today. Buyers pay below that melt value to cover assay and refining; retail coins and bars sell above it.

What is the gold price today per ounce?
The live gold spot price shown at the top of this page is the price of one troy ounce (31.1035 g) of pure 24k gold. It refreshes every few minutes from MetalflowAPI market data and is quoted in USD by default; use the currency selector to switch to EUR, GBP, INR, AED and 25+ other currencies.
How is the gold price calculated?
Spot prices reflect the cost of one troy ounce of pure 24k gold traded between banks and dealers on the London (LBMA) and New York (COMEX) markets. The price per gram is the ounce price divided by 31.1035, and other currencies are converted with live exchange rates.
What is a troy ounce?
A troy ounce equals 31.1034768 grams — about 10% heavier than the standard avoirdupois ounce (28.35 g) used for most goods. Precious metals are always priced per troy ounce.
Why are there different karat prices?
Pure gold is 24k. 22k gold is 91.67% pure, 18k is 75%, 14k is 58.5% and 10k is 41.7%. Lower-karat gold is alloyed with other metals for durability and is priced in proportion to its gold content.
How much is my scrap gold worth?
Multiply the weight in grams by the karat purity and by today's price per gram of 24k gold. That gives the melt value; pawn shops, jewelers and refiners typically pay 60–90% of it. The free scrap gold calculator does this for you in any currency.
Why does a jeweler's price differ from the spot price?
Spot is the wholesale price for large bars. Retail coins, bars and jewelry add manufacturing, dealer margin and taxes on top, while buyers of scrap gold pay below spot to cover refining and assay costs.
