The gold market in Denmark tracks the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) spot benchmark. Retail rates are converted from USD into DKK using the daily interbank exchange rate, then adjusted for local premiums, dealer margins and demand.
Import duty and value-added tax in Denmark vary by gold form. Investment-grade bullion (gold of 99.5% purity or higher) is often exempt from VAT in many jurisdictions, while jewellery attracts standard VAT plus a making charge.
24k (99.9%) is preferred for investment bars and coins, 22k (91.6%) for traditional jewellery and wedding sets, and 18k or 14k for lighter modern designs. Always look for a hallmark or assay certificate.
Licensed bullion dealers, national mints, major bank branches and government-authorised jewellery associations are the safest routes in Denmark. Online marketplaces and unlisted shops carry higher counterfeit risk and wider spreads.
Compare the shop's quoted per-gram rate against the live LBMA spot converted at the day's DKK rate. A premium over spot of 3–7% for coins and 1–4% for bars is normal — anything higher is usually the making charge.
