The Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (BAJUS) sets the daily gold rate for Dhaka, Chittagong and other cities, quoted per bhori (11.664 g) and per gram in taka.
Taxes and import duties
5% VAT applies on gold jewellery. Baggage-passenger import duty on gold bars was revised to Tk 2,000 per bhori in 2023.
Popular karats and purities
22k ('Sonar 22 caret') is the wedding standard. 21k and 18k are used for lighter pieces, and 24k bars are for investment.
