The silver market in Vietnam tracks the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) spot benchmark. Retail rates are converted from USD into VND using the daily interbank exchange rate, then adjusted for local premiums, dealer margins and demand.
Taxes and import duties
Import duty and value-added tax in Vietnam vary by silver form. Investment-grade bullion (silver of 99.9% purity or higher) is often exempt from VAT in many jurisdictions, while jewellery attracts standard VAT plus a making charge.
Popular purities
The two dominant purities are .999 (fine silver) for bars and coins, and .925 (sterling) for jewellery and cutlery. Both should carry a stamp visible with a loupe.
Where to buy silver in Vietnam
Licensed bullion dealers, national mints, major bank branches and government-authorised jewellery associations are the safest routes in Vietnam. Online marketplaces and unlisted shops carry higher counterfeit risk and wider spreads.
