The silver market in Netherlands tracks the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) spot benchmark. Retail rates are converted from USD into EUR using the daily interbank exchange rate, then adjusted for local premiums, dealer margins and demand.
Import duty and value-added tax in Netherlands vary by silver form. Investment-grade bullion (silver of 99.9% purity or higher) is often exempt from VAT in many jurisdictions, while jewellery attracts standard VAT plus a making charge.
The two dominant purities are .999 (fine silver) for bars and coins, and .925 (sterling) for jewellery and cutlery. Both should carry a stamp visible with a loupe.
Licensed bullion dealers, national mints, major bank branches and government-authorised jewellery associations are the safest routes in Netherlands. Online marketplaces and unlisted shops carry higher counterfeit risk and wider spreads.
Compare the shop's quoted per-gram rate against the live LBMA spot converted at the day's EUR rate. A premium over spot of 3–7% for coins and 1–4% for bars is normal — anything higher is usually the making charge.
