Taxes and import duties
Import duty and value-added tax in Malaysia vary by silver form. Investment-grade bullion (silver of 99.9% purity or higher) is often exempt from VAT in many jurisdictions, while jewellery attracts standard VAT plus a making charge.
Popular purities
The two dominant purities are .999 (fine silver) for bars and coins, and .925 (sterling) for jewellery and cutlery. Both should carry a stamp visible with a loupe.
